One Year On…

Tomorrow marks the one year anniversary of our humble blog. Time really does fly when you’re having fun. I’m sure I speak for the both of us, here at the Nexus, when I say that the process of writing this blog has been one of the most interesting and rewarding experiences of our lives thus far. The large amount of time invested into research and writing is all made worthwhile by the appreciation that you, the community, have shown us. I have said countless times before and I will continue saying for as long as I can, thank you.

I think it’s safe to say that we’ve come quite a long way since our debut articles. Let’s take a look shall we?

In the first week you were graced with a succinct summary of Newton’s Laws of Motion by Yanhao, and a glance at the mechanisms of the common fluorescent light by myself. They’re both vividly exhilarating reads, I can assure you.

We later advanced into more newsworthy topics, such as the artificial intelligence, AlphaGo, and the discovery of gravitational waves. We both agree that these are some of our finer posts. What do you think?

Fast forward several months and our blog is beginning to acquire a few regulars. We’re nominated for a couple of awards here and there, and it was all very exciting.

Summer rapidly approached, and we grabbed the opportunity to offer the public some essential summer must-knows. What kind of clothing is optimal for temperature regulation? Are you being scammed by your local sunglasses dealer?

Next we discussed a few ideas behind quantum mechanics and what implications it might have for computing. We moved on to explore some of the deeper questions of the universe. How can we explain the universe and do we know how it will end?

In November, we were lucky enough to be able to visit CERN, and we exploited the experience by releasing as many posts as we possibly could on the research carried out there, and the technology used.

Since then, our posts have consisted of a random smorgasbord of interesting little ideas and questions, from ‘how long does it take to travel through the centre of the Earth? to ‘how can I truly perfect my bottle flip?.

Most recently, we’ve released an array of telescope-related posts following an excursion we made to Jodrell Bank.

And that’s where our journey currently terminates. I look forward to another year spent enriching our minds alongside you.

Harvey
